Basic Scone Recipe

Hello foodies,

 

Who can't deny a tasty homemade scone? Morning or afternoon, a simple scone pairs perfectly with a cup of joe or tea. 

This basic scone recipe is easy to add your favorite dried fruit, fresh fruit, nuts, or spices.

 

 

Basic Scone Recipe 

Oven: 425 degrees F

Time: 18 minutes

Equipment: Mixing bowls, measuring spoons/cups, spatula, bowl scrapper, chefs knife, parchment lined cookie trays 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/3 cup all purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and chilled

  • 2/3 cup milk

  • 2 eggs

Directions:

  • Sift together in medium bowl:

    • 2 1/3 cup all purpose flour

    • 1/3 cup brown sugar

    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

    • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • Using your hand, rub the chilled butter in between your hands, into the dry ingredients

  • The butter will look like small peas in the dry ingredients 

  • NOW! Add whatever extra special ingredients you desire. Chocolate chunks! Dried cranberries! Walnuts! Cinnamon! 

  • Mix together in a small bowl:

    • 2/3 cup milk

    • 2 eggs

  • Add liquid ingredients to butter-dry ingredient mixture

  • Using a bowl scrapper (or spatula) fold all together until a scone form

  • Divide into 2 balls and shape into round disks

  • Cut each disk into 6 wedges

  • Place on parchment lined cookie trays and bake for 18 -ish minutes

  • Cool. Eat. Enjoy
