Basic Simple Syrup

Hello bakers,


Simple syrup is a key component in baking. Why? It is needed for: moistening cake layers, sweetening homemade sorbet, making cocktails, or using it as dressing for fruit. 


Basic Simple Syrup:

Yields: 1 cup 

Equipment needed: Measuring cups/spoons, medium saucepan, heat safe spatula, glass container 



  • 1/2 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 cup water


  • In a medium sauce pan, combine:

    • 1/2 cup water

    • 1/2 cup sugar

    • Place on stove and heat on medium heat

    • Stir with a spatula 

    • Cook for 5-8 minutes or until sugar is dissolve

  • Store in a glass container in fridge

Want to upgrade this recipe? Add your favorite ingredients like:

  • Lemon or orange zest

  • Rosemary, thyme, mint or lavender 

  • Vanilla beans or extract 

  • Coffee extract 

  • A flavored liquor
